JANINE PURVIS (Tiny Tots / Tinies 2012)
Janine began her calisthenics career at age 3, with St Aidan's Calisthenic Club. Coached by Margaret Lewry, for 8 of the 10 years she performed and competed with St Aidan's, it is where her love for calisthenics began. Janine then moved onto Frankston Peninsula / Carwen Calisthenic Club as an intermediate and competed there for 7 years, then went to Chelsea Calisthenic Club for one year (when Carwen didn't have a team), and returned to Carwen for a further 8 years. As an Intermediate, Janine performed her first solo, and enjoyed competing as a graceful girl for 4 years. In 1998, Janine moved onto Kallara Calisthenic Club for 5 years, until retiring to start a family. Janine came out of retirement to assist the Leawarra Calisthenic Club senior team in 2006, where she competed at Ballarat, and again in 2008 to fill in at CVI. Janine began her coaching career in 1988, coaching the Sub Junior section at Langwarrin Calisthenic Club. In 1989, Leawarra Calisthenic Club was formed, and Janine coached the Tiny Tots, Tinies and Sub Junior sections. In that year, the Sub Juniors won both CVI and Ballarat aggregates, and the Tinies winning runners up at CVI. Janine continued coaching the Tiny Tots and Tinies until 1995, and the Sub Juniors until 2001, before changing to coach the Junior section. During her time as Sub Junior coach, her teams won CVI in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1997, and won Ballarat in 1989, 1990 and 1997. Her Sub Juniors quickly progressed from Division 3 to Championship, then spent the rest of the years in Division 1, except for one more year again in Championship. Whilst coaching the Leawarra juniors from 2001-2005, Janine achieved many aggregate and runners up titles at numerous competitions. In 2004, Janine again took on the role of Tiny Tots and Tinies coach and is still loving that position today. During her time as Tinies coach her teams have won CVI in 1990, 2004, 2006 and 2007 and come runners up in 1989, 2005, 2008 and 2009. In 1989, Janine coached her first soloists. Over the past 23 years, she has gone on to coach many soloists - from 6 year old to senior competitors, in both calisthenic and graceful solos, many becoming CVI state champions! In 1997, Janine taught the 2nd placegetter in the Junior graceful solo at the National Championships in Adelaide. Janine is proud to have also coached the Victorian State Team Sub Juniors in 1992 and 1996, coming runners up at the National Championships on both occasions, and being the assistant coach to the Victorian State Team Sub Juniors in 1991 (also coming runners up), and in 1994 assisting the State Team Juniors. In all her years of coaching, Janine ensures her choreography is never boring. She particularly enjoys creating and writing original songs for her teams to perform, and is well-known for her original and highly-entertaining arrangements. Nothing makes Janine more proud than seeing the girls she has coached as Tiny Tots and Tinies move on through our club, their love of calisthenics continually growing and then seeing them as Seniors. She hopes to see this for many, many more years to come...
